BOOX Go 10.3 — 10.3″ ePaper Note-Taking Tablet

The Go 10.3 sits in a specific slot in the e-reader market. It’s not a Kindle it runs full Android and reads any file format, not just Amazon’s. It’s not a reMarkable 2 it has the Google Play Store, so you’re not limited to a closed ecosystem. And it’s not an iPad the ePaper display is paper-feel to write on, doesn’t tire your eyes, and lasts weeks between charges.

What it is: a 10.3-inch monochrome ePaper tablet built for people who read and write for hours a day, and who want one device instead of a stack of them. Students annotating research papers, professionals taking meeting notes, writers drafting longhand, readers who’ve moved past owning three different Kindles for three different accounts.

Ultra-thin design genuinely, not marketing

At 4.6 mm thick, the Go 10.3 is thinner than three coins stacked. At 375 g, it’s lighter than most 10-inch tablets and roughly the weight of a paperback novel. Neither number is puffed up this is measurably the thinnest 10.3-inch ePaper device on the market.

The practical difference is real. You can hold it one-handed for an evening’s reading without wrist fatigue. It slides into a bag or portfolio without dominating the space. And it stays warm to the touch after long use, closer to a book than to a tablet.

Design language is deliberately minimal a clean grayish-white front, no buttons breaking up the bezel, all ports aligned around the edge, and a PU leather back with a subtle notebook-strap texture. The back is designed to sit comfortably in your palm during long sessions.

The 300 PPI display and the honest note about front lighting

The 10.3″ HD Carta 1200 display runs at 300 PPI (2480 × 1860 resolution). At normal reading distance, text is genuinely sharp you won’t see pixel structure, and fine text in PDFs stays legible without zooming. Contrast is excellent for standard black-and-white content, and the anti-glare surface reduces reflections in bright environments.

Important — there’s no front light. This is a deliberate design choice, not a missing feature.

• In natural daylight or a well-lit room — the display looks exactly like paper, and reads better than a backlit tablet
• Outdoors in bright sun — one of its strongest use cases; unlike LCD tablets, it doesn’t wash out
• In dim indoor light — you’ll need external light (a reading lamp, overhead lamp, or your phone torch); the Go 10.3 doesn’t produce its own illumination

For daytime commuters, students, and professionals working in offices with normal lighting, this isn’t a limitation. For late-night bedside reading in the dark, it’s a real trade-off worth knowing about.

A note on newer variants: BOOX has released a Gen II version with front light (called the Go 10.3 Lumi). The Gen II Lumi and the original Go 10.3 differ in several ways the original uses BOOX’s EMR pen (excellent for writing accuracy), while the Lumi uses a capacitive pen. The original is thinner and lighter. If low-light reading is essential, look at the Lumi variant. If writing accuracy is your priority, the original is arguably still better.

Writing with the Pen Plus (included)

The BOOX Pen Plus ships in the box — no separate purchase, no accessory upsell. It’s an EMR (electromagnetic resonance) stylus with 4,096 pressure levels, which is the same technology Wacom uses on professional graphic tablets and the same class of accuracy as the original Kindle Scribe pen.

Writing feel is close to pencil on paper a small amount of friction, minimal latency, and no diagonal wobble on strokes. For anyone doing serious note-taking or drawing, EMR stylus tech is genuinely better than capacitive alternatives, and this is one of the last BOOX devices at this size to include it as standard.

Performance and battery

Hardware — 2.4 GHz octa-core CPU with 4 GB RAM handles multitasking smoothly. Not iPad-fast, but genuinely responsive for e-ink standards. 64 GB of internal storage is enough for thousands of books, PDFs, and notes.

Battery — 3,700 mAh battery lasts a week or more of typical daily use (2–3 hours reading/writing per day). Standby time runs into weeks. No front light means less battery drain than backlit alternatives. Fast charging via USB-C brings the device back to full in about 2 hours.

Connectivity — dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C. Built-in dual speakers and microphone for audiobooks, voice recording, and app compatibility. Sync via BOOX Cloud (10 GB free), Google Drive, Dropbox, or any Android cloud app.
