The 7-inch e-reader for button lovers

Amazon killed the Kindle Oasis in 2024. Kobo discontinued the Libra 2 shortly after. If you’re a reader who loves physical page-turn buttons the tactile click, the ability to hold the device one-handed on a commute, the ergonomic asymmetric bezel the mainstream market has genuinely left you behind.

The BOOX Page is one of the few remaining 7-inch e-readers with proper physical page-turn buttons on an asymmetric grip. It’s not the newest BOOX (that’s the Go 7, launched May 2025) but for many button-loving readers, it’s the right combination of features at the right price. Physical buttons. Open Android. 300 PPI text. Weeks of battery life. All in a 195 g package thin enough to slip into any bag.

Physical page-turn buttons why they matter

The Page’s asymmetric bezel houses two customisable physical buttons. Not touchscreen taps, not swipes — actual mechanical buttons with tactile feedback. Two things worth understanding about why this is a big deal in 2026:

They’re programmable, so you can assign them to page-turn, scroll, chapter-skip, or app-specific actions. The default is next-page / previous-page, but you can customise per app.

They’re ambidextrous. The Page auto-rotates when you flip the device, and the button assignments flip with it. Left-handed readers get the same one-handed experience as right-handed readers.

For anyone who’s tried to read a paperback one-handed on a commute book in one hand, coffee in the other, thumb turning pages this is exactly why buttons matter. Touchscreens require two hands or awkward finger contortion. Buttons don’t.

The E Ink Carta 1200 display

The Page uses a 7-inch E Ink Carta 1200 panel at 1680 × 1264 resolution (300 PPI). At normal reading distance, text is genuinely sharp — you won’t see pixel structure, and fine text in PDFs stays legible without zooming.

Anti-glare AG glass front — reduces reflections in bright outdoor light. Perfect for reading in cafés with big windows, on beach chairs, or in cars on long commutes.

Honest note on Carta generations: the newer BOOX Go 7 (2025) uses Carta 1300 — the latest generation with slightly faster refresh and marginally better contrast. Carta 1200 is one generation behind, but the difference at normal reading speeds is small. For heavy PDF annotation or fast scrolling, Carta 1300 has the edge. For standard reading, both look virtually identical.

Dual-tone front light with warm/cool adjustment

The Page includes a built-in front light with adjustable brightness and colour temperature:

• Cool white for daytime and outdoor use — keeps content looking crisp
• Warm amber for evening and night reading — reduces blue light for easier winding-down
• Brightness range from very low (dark room without disturbing anyone) to bright enough for well-lit indoor conditions

Two-tone light with edge-lit LEDs (no direct backlight into your eyes). Suitable for reading in any lighting condition, including bedtime reading in the dark.

Android 11 with full Google Play Store

The Page runs Android 11 with full Google Play Store access. This is the biggest structural difference between BOOX and closed-ecosystem e-readers like the Kindle Paperwhite or Kobo Libra 2:

• Kindle app for your existing Amazon library
• Kobo, Libby, Google Play Books, Scribd for other libraries
• Comic apps — Perfect Viewer, Tachiyomi, ComiXology (via Kindle)
• Productivity — Google Docs, OneNote, email, calendars, browsers
• Audio — Audible, Spotify, Pocket Casts (with Bluetooth headphones)

No BOOX-only ecosystem to buy into. Everything you already own from Amazon, Google, or elsewhere works alongside BOOX’s native reader.

Honest note on Android generation: The Page runs Android 11, released 2020. The newer Go 7 runs Android 13. Most apps you’ll want (Kindle, Libby, Kobo, standard reading tools) work fine on Android 11 — but a small number of newer apps require Android 12+ minimum. For pure reading use, Android 11 is more than enough; for productivity-heavy workflows, the Go 7 has a longer software support runway.

Storage and file formats

32 GB of internal storage — enough for tens of thousands of ebooks and hundreds of PDFs. A microSD card slot expands storage further, useful for large manga collections or extensive PDF libraries.

Cloud sync — BOOX Cloud (10 GB free), plus Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive via installed Android apps. USB-C OTG support means you can also plug in flash drives directly.

Audio and connectivity

Built-in speaker and microphone for occasional audiobook playback and voice recording. For any serious listening, pair Bluetooth 5.0 headphones or earbuds. Wi-Fi supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

Text-to-Speech — turn any ebook into a spoken audiobook using the built-in TTS engine. Useful for commutes, cooking, or resting your eyes.

Physical design

• Dimensions: 156 × 137 × 6.0 mm
• Weight: 195 g (~7 oz) — half the weight of most 7-inch tablets
• Asymmetric bezel houses the physical page-turn buttons on one side
• Back panel with textured finish for grip
