Ubiquiti UISP Wave Long-Range (WAVE-LR) | 60GHz PtMP Station
2 Gbps over 8 km the long-reach client for 60GHz networks
The Ubiquiti WAVE-LR is a 60GHz point-to-multipoint client station built to deliver multi-gigabit wireless at distances most 60GHz gear can’t reach. Powered by Ubiquiti’s Wave Technology, it connects to a Wave AP at up to 8 km or a Wave AP Micro at up to 6 km, pushing 2 Gbps of total throughput (1 Gbps full duplex) over the clean, interference-free 60GHz spectrum. When weather or interference disrupts the 60GHz link, a built-in 5GHz Wi-Fi 6 backup radio takes over at 800+ Mbps automatically, with no manual intervention.
For ISPs, WISPs, and enterprise networks deploying high-speed wireless to subscribers or between sites, the WAVE-LR is the client-side device that makes long-distance 60GHz PtMP practical.
Multi-gigabit on a clean band
Operating in the 57–71 GHz mmWave band (region-dependent), the WAVE-LR avoids the congestion that plagues 2.4/5GHz deployments. The result is a clean, low-interference link with consistent throughput — well suited to delivering broadband, connecting distributed buildings, and backhauling traffic from remote access points.
- 2 Gbps total throughput (1 Gbps in each direction)
- 46 dBi antenna gain for a tight, focused beam
- Channel bandwidth: 2160, 1080, or 540 MHz choose wider for speed or narrower for range and weather resilience
- Modulation: 16QAM and QPSK
The half-channel option (1080/540 MHz) is a practical tool for pushing links further or maintaining stability in poor weather trading peak speed for reliability when conditions demand it.
8 km range genuine long-distance 60GHz
Most 60GHz equipment tops out at a few hundred metres to a couple of kilometres. The WAVE-LR reaches 8 km to a Wave AP and 6 km to a Wave AP Micro, making it one of the longest-reaching 60GHz client devices available. That range opens up deployment scenarios connecting subscribers across a small town, linking buildings across a campus, or reaching a tower site that would otherwise need fibre or a chain of shorter hops.
5GHz Wi-Fi 6 backup automatic weather resilience
Rain and atmospheric conditions can attenuate 60GHz signals. The WAVE-LR carries a built-in 5GHz 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) backup radio that delivers 800+ Mbps when the primary 60GHz link degrades. The failover is automatic — the link stays up, the subscriber stays connected, and the system switches back to 60GHz when conditions clear. That dual-radio resilience is what separates a deployable 60GHz solution from a fair-weather experiment.
Simple deployment with GPS, Bluetooth, and precision mount
The WAVE-LR is built for field installation:
- Precision alignment mount (included) — dial in the 60GHz beam accurately during install
- Integrated GPS — provides timing synchronisation for multi-device deployments and link accuracy
- Bluetooth — pair with the UISP mobile app for simplified on-site setup and provisioning
- 1× GbE RJ45 port — with passive PoE support (24V or 48V DC), so one cable delivers both data and power
Mount it on a pole or tower, align it with the precision bracket, pair via Bluetooth, and the link is live.
Weatherproof and built for the field
The WAVE-LR is rated IPX6 with a UV-stabilised plastic housing, built to survive outdoor exposure across a wide operating range:
- Operating temperature: -40°C to 60°C
- Humidity: 5–95% non-condensing
It’s designed for permanent outdoor mounting on towers, poles, and building exteriors NZ’s coastal wind, rain, and UV won’t be a problem.
Managed through UISP
The WAVE-LR integrates with Ubiquiti’s UISP management platform for centralised network and client management:
- Network topology and link monitoring
- Traffic shaping with burst support
- Bridge or NAT/Router mode
- Speed tests, site surveys, and cable diagnostics
- Wave AI for intelligent link optimisation
- SNMP, NTP, and ping watchdog
For ISPs managing many subscribers, UISP ties it all together billing, topology, device management, and analytics in one platform.

Ideal for
- ISPs and WISPs — deliver multi-gigabit broadband wirelessly to subscribers at distances up to 8 km
- Enterprise campus networks — high-speed building-to-building links without fibre trenching
- Smart city infrastructure — backhaul for public Wi-Fi, IoT, and surveillance
- Rural and underserved broadband — reach subscribers where fibre isn’t economical
- Tower and distribution sites — long-distance client connections to Wave AP base stations
Compatibility
The WAVE-LR connects to:
- Wave AP — up to 8 km link range
- Wave AP Micro — up to 6 km link range
It operates as the client/subscriber side of a PtMP deployment. A Wave AP or Wave AP Micro base station is required at the other end.
Reach further, stay connected
The WAVE-LR puts multi-gigabit 60GHz within reach at distances that make PtMP wireless a real alternative to fibre. Add it to your order, and if you need help planning a Wave deployment link budgets, AP placement, or subscriber density get in touch and we’ll help spec the right configuration.
