AC400 Mini Dome PoE Security Camera

Dome cameras get chosen for looks as often as capability they’re discreet, they don’t announce themselves, and they suit a soffit or a ceiling far better than a bullet camera does.

AC400 4MP Mini Dome PoE Camera

The AC400 is the version of that where you don’t give anything up. 2688 × 1520 at 30fps, colour night vision, on-camera human and vehicle detection, and a housing rated to survive both weather and a deliberate kick.

Colour at night, not grey silhouettes

This is the feature that changes what your footage is worth.

Standard infrared night vision produces black-and-white images. You can see that someone was there. What you often can’t establish is what they were wearing, what colour their car was, or whether the person on your driveway at 2am is the same person from last week.

Colour night vision keeps that detail. A red jacket stays red. A blue van stays blue. When footage has to actually identify someone rather than just record that something happened, that difference matters.

Detection that knows what it’s looking at

Motion detection on older cameras triggers on anything: a cat, a branch in the wind, headlights sweeping a wall, rain in the beam. You get forty notifications a night, stop reading them, and the feature becomes worse than useless.

Human and vehicle detection classifies what caused the motion, so alerts arrive for things that matter. That’s the difference between a camera you check and a camera you mute.

4MP at 30fps

2688 × 1520 gives you meaningfully more detail than 1080p enough for facial features and plate characters at reasonable distances. 30fps keeps movement smooth rather than stuttering, which matters when you’re trying to follow what happened rather than look at a single frame.

Worth noting: higher resolution and frame rate mean more storage per day. If you’re recording continuously across several cameras, factor that into your drive sizing.

One cable does everything

Power over Ethernet carries power and data down the same Cat6 run, so the camera can go under an eave or on a ceiling with no power point nearby and no electrician needed for the power side.

That’s the practical reason PoE dominates fixed installations. One cable per camera rather than two, and no adapter dangling off a bracket.

Built to take a hit

Two ratings, and they cover different things:

  • IK10 — impact resistance. This is the vandal rating, and it’s why dome cameras get used in public-facing and reachable positions.
  • IP67 — dust and water ingress protection. Handles rain, dust and hosing down.

If a camera is mounted somewhere a person could reach it, IK10 is the specification that matters. Most residential cameras don’t have it.

Audio and local storage

A built-in microphone records audio alongside video, and a microSD slot takes up to 512GB for on-camera recording.

Two honest notes. Audio recording carries privacy considerations beyond those for video recording conversations is treated differently from recording images, and it’s worth understanding before you enable it. And local storage is a fallback rather than a primary plan: cards in cameras recording continuously fail more often than people expect, so an NVR remains the reliable option.

Where it suits

  • Front doors, driveways and entrances — where identifying someone matters more than wide coverage
  • Ceilings and soffits — the form factor dome cameras exist for
  • Reachable positions — car parks, walkways, anywhere IK10 earns its place
  • Business entrances and reception areas
  • Warehouses and construction sites

Honest positioning: a dome is the right shape for close and medium coverage from above. For long driveways or a boundary line you want to see the length of, a bullet camera with a narrower lens usually does that job better. Domes trade reach for discretion and vandal resistance.
